Paihia, Bay of Islands

Quaint little beach town…take a day trip to Cape Reinga, swim with dolphins, sandboard down sand dunes the size of a small mountain, chill out…just relax.  Sweet as, bro.

On your way back down south, be sure to stop by the huge trees and hug the oldest in the forest, named Tane Mahuta, he just might be the oldest tree you will ever hug! He is located in the Waipoua Forrest in Hokianga, NZ.

When in Auckland…

Friday, May 6th, 2011

When in Auckland…be sure to go for a light walk under the Auckland Bridge, check out the Auckland War Memorial Museum, admire the Sky Tower, and hit up the Magic office for some good laughs….Do these things, but stay far far away from the cheap hostels!  It will be well worth your money to stay at the YHA International or the Surf and Snow, trust me on this.

PS:  I bought my ticket to Singapore, will be leaving for Southeast Asia soon!!!

That’s all for now!

The Magic….BUS! Best ride EVER! Hands down!

Just so you know, if you want to see all the bits and pieces of New Zealand, hop on the Magic Bus, and you will for sure have the ride of a lifetime!

They will take you all over New Zealand, and provide details about what it is that you are looking at, how it got there and any history that may come with it!

If you ask nicely, they may even stop for you to snap a picture of that hundredth sheep!

Here is a glimpse of what a ride on the Magic Bus would be like….from a fellow Magic Rider!A Magic Moment…

Easy going beach town…could easily stay there for a good while…

Rotorua

Wednesday, April 20th, 2011

A smelly little town, with lots of history of travellors passing through.

Chock full of geothermal activities!  Definately, DO NOT MISS this city!  Stop by the boiling mud pools, the Waiotapu Thermal Wonderland or even a Maori Cultural show!  I stopped by the Waimangu and the Orakei Korako Geyserland, which are both quite AWESOME!

Book your accomadation with The Kiwipaka, it’s got a great hot pool and the price ain’t bad either!

Whitianga

One great little beach town.  Go there.  Hot Water Beach, dig a hole in the sand, and you get hot (almost scalding) water pumping out of the ground!  Awesome, natural jaccuzzi!  Visit Cathedral Cove for some great rock formations, but make sure the clutch in the rental car is in tact!

Take the Ferry to Auckland…I took a sunset cruise across the bay from Coramandeltown to Auckland.  Absolutely gorgeous.

Lake Taupo

Wednesday, April 13th, 2011

Oh my, this is one huge lake…actually, it’s not a lake, it’s a huge volcano that has exploded and sunk down, to create a crater.  Apparently, when this thing blew, it turned the sky red in both China AND Rome..WOW!  That’s huge!  I’ve heard that when this thing goes, well, it will be very very bad.

Anyway, for my 28th birthday, I walked the Tongariro Crossing, which is an 8-10 hour hike over Mt. Tongariro, and through Mt. Ngauruhoe (also known as Mt. Doom from Lord of the Rings), and along Mt. Taranaki.  Not only is that a mouthful, but it’s also a huge walk!  The weather was perfect, not a cloud in the sky, the temperature and wind were mild, one couldn’t have asked for a better day on the Tongariro!  Just amazing.  I HIGHLY recomend it to anyone and everyone who comes to New Zealand.  The feeling of accomplishment after completeing this huge walk is incomparible to anything I’ve done in a while…Happy Birthday to me!  That’s one I definately won’t forget!

Found applied for and interviewed for a job with a sky diving company…apparently, Taupo Tandem Sky Diving is the best and cheapest place in NZ to take your skyive!

Rough feet?  Check out the shore of this ancient volcano, it’s full of foot smoothing pumice!

Don’t miss the natural hot pools or the Craters of the Moon!

And stop by The Huka Falls!  A whole olympic sized pool rushes through this waterfall ever 4 seconds!

Hands down, best backpacker in the North Island: The Blackcurrant!  Tell Beth “Hi!” from me!

Travel Tip Numero Uno

Tuesday, March 15th, 2011

Met me first traveling friend from the Netherlands, Thomas, on the early morining bus ride to the InterIslander Ferry from Wellington to Picton.

My new friend, Thomas, let me in on one BIG secret to sucessful traveling!  He told me about the oh so very important book that every travellor must carry, The Lonely Planet.  Before you embark on your next journey, backpacking, or travel adventure be sure to stop by your local bookstore and pick up a copy of The Lonely Planet

This book holds all the information you will need to make your way around the area you are visiting.  It contains current information on where to go, where to stay away from, what to expect, what to do, what to see where to eat and where to lay your weary head.

No matter what your budget, The Lonely Planet is the travel guide for you!

Wellington Botanic Garden

Monday, March 14th, 2011

Juan, my Spanish sailor friend and I visited the Wellington Botanic Gardens on Thursday.  The gardens are simply serene.  We took the cable car  to the top of the (mountain?), the views of the Te Whanganui-a-Tara bay were absolutely spectacular!

nice ride Around every corner is an unexpected suprise, a "new to me" flower, or a strange sun dial, sometimes, it's just another person asking me where in Canada I'm from. What time is it anyway?

If you have the chance you really should check it out…

what's the buzz about?
