Let me re-Phrase that…

Who do I think I am? To go all the way to Thailand, and visit one of the best diving spots IN THE WORLD and NOT actually DIVE?

I. DON’T. THINK. SO.

Really? I wouldn’t be Katie, if I didn’t find a way to dive while there. So, I did.

I even got licenced to use Nitrox! Woot! Woot!

After a few panic attacks under water, I was finally able to enjoy my last few dives down in Koh Tao!

Made some great friends and experienced TOTAL relaxation.

WON.DER.FULL.

You absolutely MUST experience KOH TAO, to understand the state of complete and utter realaxxation…

Hey Alice! Where You Goin’?

Sunday, June 26th, 2011

This morning, I was talking with a fellow travellor about how I am stressing about what I should do with my future.

He asked me simply, “Have you read Alice in Wonderland?” I replied with a reluctant “Yeah, but it’s been a while…” meanwhile thinking “Where the hell is he going with this? Is he about to compare me to the Mad Hatter or something!?!?”

He began to describe the part of the story where Alice is walking along and comes to a fork in the road, and the Cheshire Cat appears. She asks the cat for directions, to which he replies with the question, “Where do you what to go?” She explains that she doesn’t know, and he replies, “Well, then it doesn’t matter does it.” Hmmm…deep.

Oh. SHIT. A drunken rant.

What the fuck have I done.   ???

Tonight, I was sitting in a semi-crowded bar listening to an all-right band playing cover songs with like 20 people who I will never remember, but rode all over the countryside and through the  rice patties with today and still felt all alone.

Man, I miss the summer crazy dancing and singing along with my favorite local bands…

Honestly, I don’t give a shit about any of these  people that  I’ve just met (Now, don’t get me wrong, I would hate for anything bad to happen to any of them, but at the same time, I really don’t know any of them from the cashier at Wal Mart.)   Why…Who knows?  Is something wrong with me?  For some reason I can’t relate to drunken 22 year olds and don’t want to even bother trying to hook up…so, I’d rather update the blog that no one is probably even reading?

I am as far away from home as I can get and all by myself….I have a slight inclination to get home, but for what?

I have no job, no viable career path, no lover…I do have a great group of priceless family and friends…yet, I am still out here as far away as I can possibly get and looking for something.  Not quite sure what it is, but I do know what it is not.

Honestly, I left home thinking about the possibility of  love and maybe even something that would last forever…However, I found out that…Well, what all men really want is well…exactly what you think they want.  FUCK.

Oops! Run for the border!

Wednesday, June 15th, 2011

Got all the way to Pai, and realized my Visa was up 4 days before I thought it would be…My bad!!!

Looks like it’s time for a border run!  Back to Chiang Mai and then on to Burma…

The Burma border…Well, I must admit that experience was a tad scary…I walked across the Thai side, over a river to the Burma side, where I had my picture taken by people that really didn’t speak much English. They took my money (legally, of course) and my passport and told me to walk out the door and across the street. …um…ok…but can you give me my passport, first? NO. You walk across the bridge, over the begging man’s legs, hang a right and walk into a different office….riiiight. OK, so I tentatively walked across the street, WITHOUT MY PASSPORT, mind you, and into this other office…where they told me to go walk around in Burma. Uh. NO, thanks. GIVE ME MY PASSPORT. Please? No…you go walk around and come back in an hour. Uh. NO. I made them give me back my passport, and headed straight back to Thailand, my home away from home. :)

Where Am I?

From Koh Phi Phi, I decided to take the ferry to Koh Lanta, seriously bad move for a homesick single travelor…

This place is completly devoid of people. It was seriously like a ghost town…As I rode solo through the town shops were closed in the middle of the day, there was no traffic for miles. I was on the verge of freakout mode-eyes beginning to tear up, hands shaking, thoughts like “What have I done this time?” Then, we pull up to the hotel, no cars in the drive, only a couple of scooters, “Oh Shit.” More tears, “Get me home. STAT!” So, I decided I would leave the next AM. And away I went, to Reilay, with hopes to reconnect with the backpacker crowd and find a few friends.

Phi Phi Don…

Tuesday, May 24th, 2011

Managed to leave my phone in Ao Nang. Nice work. Again.  Picked it up at the ferry dock.  It’s beginning to seem like I couldn’t lose this phone if I tried…

Umm…yeah,so, Phi Phi Island major party scene every night, if you are interested…and if not, there are some very quiet areas for total relaxation…namely Long Beach for total re.lax.ation. fo realz….I mean I am so realaxed that I can’t be bothered to take a scuba trip.  Maybe bc it’s so damn hot I just don’t want to move!  Whatever the reason, I am experiencing relaxation, and loving it.

Phi Phi is also a great launching p0int to get to other awesome beaches…including Reilay Beach, known for it’s awesome rock climbing!  And boyyyy it sure is awesome!  Trust me, I know!  If you make it to this side of the globe, you definately shouldn’t miss Reilay Beach!  …but all of this can be found in you travel bible…

One Night in Singapore

Thursday, May 19th, 2011

Ok, so maybe you are wondering what I did that was so potentially stupid and dangerous…I’ll tell you, but if you read this, you have to promise not to give me shit for it, I know promises are pretty much bullshit….but anyway, this is a blog about my travels, and a night in Singapore was a part of my travels…and hey, I’m still here to write about it.

Alright, so here it goes…I made friends with the person beside me on the flight over from NZ, we had good life and travel conversation, he seemed like a cool dude, same age as me, and a fellow backpacker, living in Singapore, from Germany.  Basically, he offered his guest room to me for the night, and we could share a taxi to the airport the next AM, (he works near the airport) and I took him up on the offer.

He turned out to actually be a real nice guy.  Sometimes, it’s worth the risk.

There.  I said it.

I promised myself that I wouldn’t do it again.  Promises.  Promises.

What about Phuket?

Phuket….content goes here. (lol)

Oh Phuket….Thailand…Was it May? Yes, it was May….6 months later and I am finally getting back to this blog…So sorry for the delay…I suck. Well, I don’t suck, I just tend to get distracted, quite distracted.

Phuket was my first Thailand experience. I flew from New Zealand, to Singapore, then to Phuket.

Why Phuket? I dunno. Just kidding, I had a good friend, from Tennessee of all places, whom I met in Auckland, New Zealand, who was heading there before she left for a bus tour in Laos.

Kellie is her name. And she is THE BOMB! We travelled for a bit through New Zealand, and she was one of the main contributors to my decision to make the jump over to Thailand in the first place. (Thanks, Kel!)

We stayed at the 7Q Hotel for 4 nights! That place is also the bomb! Close to the ocean, and with a super duper infinity pool, best service and at a great price!

Oh, Phuket. What an experience. Geeze, here I had my first face to face interaction with the notorious, “LadyBoy.”

WOW! Those dudes are hotter than most chicks! I was quite jealous! Sometimes, they really can trick you, you can’t tell that they are dudes AT ALL! Just ask some of the European men who thought they were bringing a nice Thai girl home for the night….Oh the stories I’ve heard!!!! And of course there are some who are a bit old for the nick name “Boy.” “LadyMan” would be more appropriate for these “more experienced” characters. Poor souls.

Either way, we had some good times with some nice Aussies, who were having a short holiday there. They were our “protectors” while in this unknown, lawless land…

Phuket is also the place where I made one of the stupidest descisions in my life EVER, but luckily, it turned out just fine.

I might consider Phuket as the place where my bawls quite possibly turned to steel.

All Aboard!!!!!!

Only The Essentials

Everything I Need...

After days of planning, packing and collecting the essentials, multiple trips to my new favorite outdoor store, Mountain Designs, tickets are booked and I’m ready - or - not- either way, I’m off for the next adventure-with strangers!

Tomorrow, at 7am, I will embark on an adventure involving a big blue bus! Also known as, The Magic Bus!  Hmmm…I wonder what kind of “magic” is in store for me in the next few weeks?!?!? Who knows, but if you click the link above, you can see the general route that I will be taking…minus any random excursions- of course!

Next stop-ferry from Wellington over to Picton, NZ and then to Nelson!  I will be staying in Nelson at the YHA Hostel, if nothing else, that will be an adventure in itself.

I can’t wait to tell you all about the next leg of this journey!

Until next time!

xoxo,

K

PS:  I came across these two “love birds” on the way home with my new “tramping pack.”  I simply could not resist the picture opportunity!

I saw these two one day on the way back from a trip to the store. Couldn't resist the prime pic opportunity! :)

really.

The Magic Awaits

Tuesday, March 15th, 2011

My first Magic bus ride.

After colleting the belongings I would carry for the next few weeks, I walked out of the terminal to find The Magic Bus awaiting my arrival.  YAY!  Solid ground and reliable transport.

Rick is in the blue shirt.  My very first Magic bus driver!

But wait, there’s more!  Snickers from our driver?  Yes, please!  How did he know we were famished?

nom nom nom

Onward, Soldiers!  To Nelson, we go!

Oh, wait, it’s time for a wine tasting before we move further… :)

Bouldevineyards

On the way to find Nelson, we stop at a for a quick wine tasting in Blenheim.  Yup, that’s good stuff!  …Oh, and fudge?  YES, PLEASE!

Just gorgeous!
